How does everyone feel about setting up a Go Fund Me? I never did one personally, but a friend of mine has been recently diagnosed and I know she needs help so I've thought about setting one up for her. Would you be offended? Do I need to ask first or will she deny it even if it would help? I'd love everyone's thoughts here.

It's not for me, I would find it super awkward to send a request to friends and family for money

I would never share a situation without the agreement and support of the friend that has the diagnosis.. It's awesome to want to help (and really thoughtful of you) but some people really do not want their diagnosis out in the world ... this is just an opinion, and worth every penny you paid for it. Did you set up a village for your friend, so all of their community can help out?

I'd do it. I did it for myself and for my mom - even if you don't raise a lot, its great to have even a tiny bit of extra help during that time. And I had more people reaching out in general after I shared my page publically, although the donations and check ins will really slow down after awhile because people move on with their lives while you're still going through it all

I wouldn't set one up without having a conversation with her first. It's a nice thought but some people are so sensitive about money that it might not be worth risking your relationship. But if you see she really is struggling you could have the conversation with her first then say you'll help promote/manage the page, which might take some of the fear out of her going for it. That's just my thoughts though

I agree, asking for help is hard but this is the time to do it. People understand how messed up hospital bills and insurance is in this country so a lot more people are willing to give then you even think, especially if you're sharing on social media. And if you are setting it up for a friend, it's not like they're the ones begging and you can take the stress out of coordinating everything.

This is a great question, I feel like a lot of us struggle with this. I personally never did one becuase I'm not one to ask for help, but after the fact I kind of wish I had. People want to help and even if they're giving $5, it can really add up. And you just never know what expenses are going to come about with a diagnosis, especially if you don't understand your insurance plan well. If a friend had set one up for me I would have liked it I think.
