Inner Identity Thief

Have you ever had this happen to you? The other day, I was sitting on my back patio, looking at the morning sky taking shape. Bright colors of purple and pink filled the sky, letting me know that a new day was dawning. Allowing my mind to wander during my meditation in search of new ideas and direction, I had an overwhelming feeling come over me. A voice filled my mind, letting me know that I was to build a school for children blessed with ADD and ADHD. I have heard this voice many times. Excited and motivated, I went inside and began the journey of what it would take to build a school. While I was frantically searching the internet, gathering the information needed for this adventure, another feeling began to fill my mind. This feeling kept getting stronger and stronger, and my ambition began to lessen. I stopped searching the internet and sat back in my chair. My excitement shifted. I began to have disempowering thoughts race through my mind. I began to hear all the people from my past telling me. "You can't do this," "You have no formal education," "You barely graduated High School," "Who do you think you are," "What difference do you think you can make?" I sat in my chair with my shoulders falling forward and a sadness filling my heart. My identity and how I held myself, that inner demon that lives in all of us, was stealing my sense of adventure and passion! How can I go from this feeling of euphoria centered around purpose and passion, knowing that this was my next river of life, to having it all turned around, and suddenly, it is a raging rapid of terror and waterfalls of doubt? I would like to ask the group. What tools or thoughts do you use to tame this inner thief hiding in the shadows, waiting to turn your waters of motivation and creativity into a raging river of terror?
